My name is Md. Mofazzol Haque. Currently pursuing my bachelor's degree at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Department of Social Work. I am a student journalist at Bangladesh Pratidin and The Daily Campus. I am a dedicated professional with a strong background in media's role in strengthening democracy, particularly in Bangladesh. With extensive experience in Quality Education and Gender Equality projects, I have developed a keen understanding of the intersection between media, education, community and democratic processes. My work is driven by a passion for fostering informed and engaged communities through effective communication and educational initiatives. I am committed to leveraging my skills and knowledge to contribute to meaningful societal change and to support the development of robust democratic institutions.
Among the 64 districts, Sunamganj district is the most among the least developed in terms of education and gender equality. Geographically, Sunamganj is a haor region (wetland), so the standard of living of the people of this area has not improved. As a result, the basic rights like education have not been properly implemented yet. According to a survey by the Bangladesh Department of Primary Education, the students of Sunamganj district are the most backward in the field of education.
I myself am a victim of all these problems. When I was in primary school, there was no electricity in my area. There were no home tutors to teach me. My parents thought that studying so much was not necessary. But after struggling a lot, I got a chance at university. Now I understand everything. Education and equality are essential to make the modern world beautiful and to face the fourth industrial revolution. It is painful to think that many students in my area are not getting adequate opportunities for education. Many girls are getting married before completing secondary school, which is a big obstacle to the development of the social system. Therefore, I have taken a pledge that all students in my community will be school-oriented. No one will be illiterate. The light of education will reach everyone's doorstep.
We conducted a survey in three villages of Dhanpur, Chandipur, Nachni of Derai Upazila. The topic of the survey was "The reason for falling behind in the field of education and the solution through social awareness". Findings are that about 60% of women students fell into the secondary education before completing their secondary education. About 70% of the girls were married before eighteen years. Unskilful teachers, poor infrastructure of the institutions, superstition, poverty are one of the reasons for the barriers of the education.
Therefore, I have been working since 2022 to solve some of these common problems. We have recently been running three schools with the aim of implementing SDG-4,5 (Quality Education) and (Gender Equality) as directed by the United Nations. The schools are - Dhanpur Government Primary School, Government Speech and Hearing Impaired School and Dhanpur Independent Ebtedayi Madrasa. We are working to ensure equal rights of men and women in the field of education, acquire leadership qualities, quality education, practical learning outcomes, encourage school attendance and increase awareness among parents. Classes, seminars and training sessions were organized for 157 students in Dhanpur Independent Ebtedayi Madrasa throughout the month of March. Where simple teaching techniques and ideas about social status as a result of education are given. As a result, there has been a lot of improvement compared to the past. To encourage them to study, we have organized various quiz competitions and awarded them. As a result of our activities, about 1500 students have directly benefited in three years. We have been able to provide books, bags and other educational materials to 56 extremely poor students.
My initiative was selected among the top 10 project submissions at the 11th International Youth Organization Conference. Additionally, my work has been featured in a national newspaper in Bangladesh, highlighting its impact and relevance.
We hope that in the next 5 years, about five hundred students of the three schools will improve in the field of education and gender equality. With the joint efforts of everyone, the world of the future will be happy and prosperous.
