Leveling up the SDGs: How the UN is scoring big on multiple Goals

As the Secretary-General presents his Report on the Work of the Organization, we are reminded of the immense challenges facing our world. Yet, amidst these challenges, there is hope.

Under the leadership of Resident Coordinators and their offices, UN country teams are working tirelessly to help countries accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, recognizing that real progress often requires tackling multiple SDGs simultaneously.

By targeting critical areas where success can unlock achievements across many Goals, UN country teams are helping the world level up on the SDGs, one strategic move at a time.

Guatemala: A focus on food systems has proven to be a strategic entry point. Sustainable food production, improved access to nutritious food, and empowered local farmers have tackled hunger and boosted sustainable agriculture, health, water management, and sanitation.

North Macedonia: Access to affordable and clean energy is catalyzing SDG progress. Financing for energy access and affordability has reduced energy poverty and fostered economic growth, public health, social well-being, and climate action.

India: Investment in digital public infrastructure has proven transformative. By supporting India's drive to expand digital access and share its expertise, the UN is helping advance education, healthcare, financial inclusion, and social progress.

Jamaica: Prioritizing education is proving to be a cornerstone for a more equitable and prosperous future. Creation of supportive learning environments and empowering teachers is not only improving educational outcomes but also fostering gender equality, reducing poverty, and creating work opportunities.

Malawi: Fostering jobs and social protection is addressing poverty and inequality across the board. Efforts in these areas are generating more decent jobs and expanding social safety nets, while promoting economic growth and digital development, empowering women and youth, promoting gender equality, and building a more resilient and inclusive society.

Iraq: Water management has become an opportunity to address multiple interconnected challenges. Sustainable water management initiatives are improving access to clean water and sanitation and advancing climate action, biodiversity conservation, and regional cooperation.
