Capacity building workshop held in Moulvibazar


A day-long workshop on enhancing the capacity of the right holders and strengthening the existing data collection system in Tea Gardens of Sylhet Division was held on September 29.

The workshop was organized by UN Joint SDG Fund programme at the Grand Sultan Tea Resort in Moulvibazar’s Sreemangal upazila.

Mir Nahid Ahsan (DC, Moulvibazar) was present as the chief guest of the workshop’s inaugural session while Md. Mehedi Hasan, additional deputy commissioner (revenue) of Moulviabzar was present as the chair.

Dr. Premananda Mondol, civil sureon of Sylhet, Dr. Mustafizur Rahman, civil surgeon of Habiganj, Md. Nazrul Islam, upazila nirbahi officer of Sreemangal, Mahboob E Alam chief of PPR unit of UNFPA, Prof. Dr. M.A Halim, director of RCH unit of CIPRB, Tahsin A Chowdhury, member of Bangladesh Tea Association and Alexius Chicham, national programme coordinator of SDG Joint Programme for Tea Garden were present as special guests.

Mahboob E Alam chief of PPR unit of UNFPA delivered the welcome remark and shared the objective of the workshop. He highlighted on the necessity of access to information in maternal health care and importance of collection and integration of relevant data.

“Tea garden community is one of the left-behind community of the country. Female tea garden workers do not have the access to proper healthcare as most of the information is not available to them. Relevant data collection, and integration is a vital factor for making government and private sectors’ initiative successful,” he said.

Mir Nahid Ahsan, the DC of Moulvibazar emphasized on the social services to be available for the female tea garden workers and their family members.

“By ensuring education, sustainable social safety net planning and execution, women empowerment and their participation in decision making process the standard of life can be improved in the tea gardens. And harmonized data on tea gardens is vital to take proper measures to achieve the sustainable development goals and no one will be left behind,” he said.
