Brief Description

The joint programme titled 'Promoting Just Energy Transition in Uzbekistan' aims to initiate a pathway for a Just Energy Transition by strengthening regulatory and institutional capabilities, engaging stakeholders, and ensuring representation of vulnerable groups in Uzbekistan's shift towards a low-carbon economy.

The joint programme promotes a Just Energy Transition in Uzbekistan, enhancing regulatory and institutional capabilities to address barriers in energy production and consumption. It engages stakeholders through public consultations and aims to integrate Just Transition principles into the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) of Uzbekistan. By focusing on green job creation and social protection, the programme directly benefits 60-70 technical specialists and 30 policy decision-makers, fostering inclusivity for vulnerable groups. Overall, it significantly contributes to poverty reduction, gender equality, and climate resilience, advancing multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Expected key results

  1. By the end of 2025, the regulatory and institutional capabilities of Uzbekistan to identify and address in a just and equitable manner the key barriers to clean energy transition, and implementation of full-scale reforms in energy consumption and production are strengthened.
  2. By the end of 2025, Uzbekistan stakeholders are actively engaged in the Just Energy Transition process through public consultations and the National Tripartite Council.
  3. By the end of 2025, the adopted NDC3.0 of Uzbekistan contains a social component that will enable a Just Transition Framework with an initial focus on the Just Energy Transition implemented through the NDC Implementation Plan up to 2030.
