Maldives Launches Joint SDG Fund Programme to Operationalize Integrated National Financing Frameworks


The United Nations in the Maldives partnered with the Government of Maldives to assist the country to build back better from the adverse impacts of the global pandemic and accelerate the achievement of the 2030 Agenda. This partnership successfully secured financial resources through the Joint SDG Fund and aims to strengthen the core governance system of financial planning and improvement of the funds targeting mechanism towards two main focus areas: climate action and social services reform. Through joint implementation by the Govermnent, UN agencies, private sector, and other stakeholders, the project budget of approximately US$ 1.4 million will contribute to the operationalization of an Integrated National Finance Framework (INFF) process in Maldives. The overall goal of this programme is increased climate resilience and quality social services for all the population.

During an official ceremony held on 9 July 2020, Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Abdulla Shahid and the UN Resident Coordinator for Maldives Ms. Catherine Haswell signed the declaration of commitment for this partnership.
