Brief Description

The joint programme titled 'Accelerating SDGs through Localisation-Kenya' aims to enhance public participation and civic engagement in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the county level in Kenya, addressing challenges such as inadequate resources and low citizen involvement to ensure equitable service delivery and improved governance.

The programme focuses on enhancing public participation in Kenya's development process to accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the county level. It supports 17 counties in finalizing public participation policies, improving oversight through county assemblies, and ensuring that plans and budgets address the needs of marginalized populations. The initiative reaches approximately 7.4 million people, including over 3.1 million children and nearly 3.8 million women and girls, fostering inclusive governance and effective service delivery. Overall, it significantly contributes to advancing gender equality and enhancing climate resilience, thereby promoting the achievement of SDGs.

Expected key results

Improved public participation in SDG implementation at devolved levels. Enhanced targeting of scarce resources to the needs of most left behind populations in the planning and budgeting processes for robust SDGs implementation, tracking and reporting at devolved levels. Enhanced capacity of 8 counties to localize and implement SDGs.
