Brief Description

The joint programme titled 'Amplifying Digital Opportunities in Cross-Border Trade' aims to improve the livelihoods and economic opportunities of Small-Scale Cross-Border Traders in Rwanda, primarily women, by leveraging digital technology to enhance access to resources, markets, and services while fostering collaboration and supporting policy reforms for a conducive digital trade ecosystem.

The joint programme enhances the livelihoods and economic opportunities of Small-Scale Cross-Border Traders (SSCBTs) in Rwanda, primarily women in the informal sector, by leveraging digital technology for better resource connections and market access. It implements a three-pronged approach focusing on policy enhancement, service provision, and grassroots empowerment, resulting in improved governance frameworks, accessible financial services, and tailored digital solutions. The programme directly benefits approximately 154,200 SSCBTs, fostering inclusive economic growth and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through enhanced resilience and competitiveness.

Expected key results

An improved governance and regulatory framework for a conducive digital trade ecosystem will be created.

Existing services are more accessible and relevant to needs of SSCBTs, through creation of tailored digital tools and capacity-building support to meso-level service providers.

SSCBTs are economically and socially empowered to improve their livelihoods and well-being, including by using tailored digital services to access services.
