Food Systems Transformation in Timor-Leste
Brief Description
This joint programme aims to improve economic, market and social access to nutritious food for a third of the population in Timor-Leste. It will improve economic access by facilitating large-scale investments in agricultural infrastructure, food distribution, processing, and storage facilities, and enabling legal and regulatory environments for additional financing. The programme will improve market access by engaging farmers and SMEs at municipal level to build their technical, financial, and business capacities through open innovation centres, especially for women. Successful innovations in agricultural practices and financing solutions will be institutionalized at the national level. To improve social access, the programme will provide targeted nutritional education programs for pregnant and lactating mothers to improve their eating behaviours and promote breastfeeding and other nutritionally adequate child feeding practices.
Expected key results

Local markets will be strengthened with more stable and diverse food supply.
- Stunting and malnutrition among children will be significantly reduced with widespread adoption of nutritionally optimal diet for pregnant and lactating women and better child feeding practices.
