Brief Description

The joint programme titled 'Localize to Realize: Accelerating SDG implementation for local and vulnerable groups and communities of women, indigenous peoples and informal settler families' aims to enhance the capacity of local governments and marginalized communities in the Philippines to effectively utilize resources for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through targeted, gender-responsive actions and collaborative planning.

The program focuses on enhancing the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for vulnerable communities in the Philippines, particularly women, indigenous peoples, and informal settler families. It establishes SDG localization mechanisms and policies, empowering local governments and communities to address their unique needs through participatory planning and resource allocation. Significant achievements include capacitating 40 Bajau families and 40 informal settler families to engage in local SDG processes, thereby improving their access to livelihood opportunities and social protection services. The program fosters partnerships with local and national governments, enhancing climate resilience and contributing to the advancement of SDGs.

Expected key results

SDG localization mechanisms and policies at city level are used by the Surigao City and established as a model for SDG localization. This includes platforms for target groups to engage in decision making, particularly on livelihood and social protection matters, as well as the development of the city’s VLR.  Vulnerable communities and population groups in Surigao City are capacitated and engaged in local SDG planning, monitoring and reporting processes. Quick response mechanisms (e,g, soup kitchens, enrolment of out-pf-school youth) and community projects for basic services (e.g. urban gardening, wash facilities) will be developed.
