Brief Description

The joint programme titled 'Strengthening Sustainable Food Systems in the Bolivian Amazon to Live Well in Harmony with Mother Earth' aims to enhance the resilience and sustainability of food production systems in the Bolivian Amazon, benefiting smallholder farmers, particularly women and youth from indigenous communities, while promoting equitable access to markets and decent working conditions.

The Joint Programme "Strengthening Sustainable Food Systems in the Bolivian Amazon" enhances the resilience of food production systems by supporting smallholder farmers, particularly women and youth from indigenous communities. It directly benefits 5,836 individuals across 14 municipalities, focusing on improving livelihoods through sustainable practices, market access, and decent working conditions. The programme fosters partnerships with various stakeholders, contributing to policy changes and capacity building, while addressing multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Overall, it significantly impacts local communities by promoting food security and environmental sustainability.

Expected key results

Micro-level: OUTCOME 1. Small SPAAT producers, mainly women and young people from indigenous peoples in situations of food vulnerability in the Amazon region of Bolivia, have strengthened their productive, organizational, adaptive and coping capacities. Meso-level: OUTCOME 2. Small SPAAT producers in the Amazon region of Bolivia have improved their access to markets at the local, national and international levels through a better match between supply and demand of quality and safe Amazonian foods and derivatives. Macro-level: OUTCOME 3. Decision-makers and other stakeholders with enhanced technical capacities to generate an enabling environment for the implementation of the National Food Systems Pathway in Bolivia.
