Total funding allocated

Brief Description

The joint programme titled 'Just Energy Transition' aims to support the Tunisian Government in ensuring an inclusive energy transition that addresses energy poverty and leaves no one behind, particularly focusing on vulnerable populations in Kairouan Governorate.

This joint programme supports Tunisia's inclusive energy transition by engaging vulnerable households, enhancing energy access, and conducting energy efficiency assessments in schools and healthcare facilities. It adapts social assistance programmes to target energy poverty, reaching approximately 150,000 people in precarious situations. The initiative promotes sustainable consumption practices among youth and strengthens partnerships with local stakeholders, ultimately advancing climate resilience and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Expected key results

  • Social assistance programmes are adapted on the basis of an evaluation to specifically target households suffering from energy poverty rather than exclude them, thereby improving energy access and mitigating social inequalities associated with the energy transition
  • Scalable models for improvement in energy are available as a result of energy efficiency assessments/audits carried out in 10 schools and healthcare facilities in Kairouan governorate and advanced by the Government as a result
  • Specific behavioral changes are promoted as a result of nation-wide sensitisation activities on sustainable consumption practices
