Catalyzing Transformative Change in Education
Education is a cornerstone of the 2030 Agenda. It empowers individuals, transforms societies, and is fundamental to achieving all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Yet 250 million children remain out of school, and millions more attend but do not learn. The barriers are systemic: hunger, climate shocks, outdated curricula, exclusion, and lack of community voice. Traditional, siloed approaches cannot solve these interconnected challenges. That is why the UN Joint SDG Fund has positioned education as a strategic priority, investing USD 48 million across 31 joint programmes that treat education not as a standalone sector, but as a lever for transformation across multiple domains. Guided by UN Resident Coordinators and implemented through UN country teams, these programmes apply a systems lens to unlock education’s full potential. They link learning with digital transformation, nutrition, climate resilience, economic opportunity, and local governance. They strengthen institutions, pilot innovations, and build sustainable financing mechanisms. By bringing together governments, communities, and partners, the Fund delivers holistic solutions tailored to local realities, tackling the complex, interconnected barriers that keep children from learning. This integrated model enables progress that individual UN entities or traditional donors cannot achieve alone. It connects digital innovation with school feeding data. It positions teacher training within social protection frameworks. It leverages impact investing to build education infrastructure. The result is education reform that is evidence-based, scalable, and designed to leave no one behind.
