Crisis to Resilience: Food Security in the Development Emergency Modality

18:30 - 20:00 EST
CR9, UNHQ

High-Level Political Forum side-event

The side event chaired by the Federal Republic of Germany Parliamentary Secretary of State, Dr. Bärbel Kofler, will showcase the work of the UN Joint SDG Fund's Development Emergency Modality. The COVID-19 pandemic and war in Ukraine intensified the vulnerabilities and inadequacies of global food systems. The Fund's Development Emergency Modality provided over US$21 million to 85 UN Country Teams, serving over 100 countries and territories of the most exposed to the crises. The support has been instrumental in helping Governments gather up-to-date data especially in areas of food, energy and financing. Achieving this goal by the target date of 2030 will require partnerships and a profound change of the global food system - bridging short-term crisis response with a longer-term approach for sustainability.

Including a panel discussion on the Joint SDG Fund's work featuring:

  • Dr. Bärbel Kofler, State Secretary, Germany
  • Minister for International Cooperation, Netherlands
  • Mr Oscar Fernandez-Taranco, Assistant Secretary-General on Development Coordination
