Background

At the margins of the United Nations General Assembly, the event will showcase a new alliance of the United Nations development system with the private sector. A Silicon Valley / Hollywood: Tech & Media Funders Breakthrough Alliance of the Joint Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Fund builds capacity for the SDGs with public and private sector support in areas including science and technology, transportation, urban planning, oceans, climate ed tech, climate equity, energy systems, and clean water, with the deep spirit of inclusion. Partnering with multi-sector stakeholders in thought leadership, catalyzing investment, innovative projects, we aim to drive SDG awareness and adoption in the U.S. and globally. Highlighting the space between philanthropy, social impact investing, and local & global policy – the Breakthrough Alliance will  offer supportable, investing guidelines and standards that use the power of tech, media and markets to enable people, advance companies, and illuminate paths to social benefit.

Already supporting a global portfolio of investments valued at over $290 million through programmes in over 150 countries and territories, the Joint SDG Fund connects private capital to SDG-aligned programmes across the globe. Financing the SDGs requires raising new types of capital and collaborating among new partners, most notably in the worlds of tech and media. This event will broadcast a long overdue message – we need to retell the story of development in today’s world: the SDGs belong to all of us and together – nothing is impossible.
